What's better than competing in a mock trial tournament? Competing in a mock trial tournament at home!
This past weekend, Oct. 23-24, Mock Trial @ UI hosted our very own Cornshucker Challenge invitational in Iowa City!
The tabulation summary for the 2021 Cornshucker Challenge can be found here.
Two of our teams, 1660 and 1661, competed at home this weekend. Despite the rain and cold on Sunday, we enjoyed competing at our first competition of the year.
Many of us invited our families and friends to come watch us do what we love! 🖤💛
The field this weekend was comprised of various ORCS- and Nationals-qualifying teams from around the Midwest. We were so happy to be able to host you all on our campus!
A big congratulations to Hillsdale College, winners of this year's Cornshucker with a perfect record of 8-0! 🥇
Our prez and VP were an unstoppable duo this weekend, winning individual awards at their first in-person tournament since competing together at the Opening Round Championships in March of 2020.
Tess Paxson (right) was awarded Outstanding Witness for her portrayal of firefighter Alex Silva. It was also her birthday weekend. Happy 21st, Tess! 🎉
Shaffer Kirschenmann (left) was awarded both Oustanding Attorney and Outstanding Witness for her roles as a prosecution closing attorney and as the defense expert, forensic psychologist Dr. Mel Jelani.
For the fourth in-person year in a row, a University of Iowa competitor was the winner of the Cornshucker Challenge Double Threat Award. This award goes to the competitor with the most ranks as both an attorney and awitness.
Shaffer was this year's Double Threat, receiving a perfect 20 ranks as an attorney and 17 ranks as a witness.
Great job this weekend, everyone!
Special thanks to:
Our Assistant Head Coach, Jake Huebener, for all his hard work on making Cornshucker 2021 happen!
Our non-competing team, 1661, for volunteering their time to making everything run smoothly this weekend.
Diane Michalak, Head Coach of Wheaton College Mock Trial, for running our tabulation room this weekend.
Thank you all so much, we could not have done this without you!
